Advert Standards
Every advert on Motortradeuk.com — from private sellers and traders — must meet these standards. Adverts that don't may be hidden, and repeated problems can lead to a seller being suspended.
1. Accurate details
Give accurate vehicle details, mileage and price. Don't guess or round down the mileage.
2. No hidden fees
Clearly state any compulsory fee a buyer must pay on top of the advertised price, such as admin or preparation fees.
3. Your own photos
Only use photographs you took yourself or have permission to use. Never copy photos from another advert.
4. Faults and write-offs
Describe known faults and any known insurance write-off history (for example Category S or N).
5. Who you are
Identify yourself correctly as a trader or a private seller. Traders must not pose as private sellers.
6. Back up your claims
Claims such as "full service history" must be supported by records you can show the buyer.
7. Mark it sold
Mark the vehicle as sold promptly using your management link or dealer tools.
8. Fair adverts only
No duplicate, fraudulent, abusive or misleading adverts.
Off-road bikes, Surrons and electric bikes
Sellers must state whether the vehicle is road registered, not road registered, or unknown. Registration alone does not confirm that a vehicle is currently legal to use on the road — it may also need insurance, tax, an MOT and road-legal equipment.
